Best Romantic Comedy Film Locations to Visit in NYC

"Don't you just love New York in the fall? Makes me wanna buy school supplies"

I had the wonderful opportunity to travel to NYC for the first time in 2019 for a work trip. It was an unusually warm week in October and my co-worker and I had a few hours in our schedule to see the city. Most of the fantasy that I've dreamt up about NYC has been from Rom-Com movies (no shame) -- so of course I had to visit some of the filming locations from movies like When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle, Serendipity, etc.

If you also find yourself with a few hours to spare in NYC and aren't sure where to start, I hope you find this mini-list helpful! I can't wait to visit again to see all that this city has to offer!

OntheSetofNewYork is an amazing resource, too, providing film locations for popular romcoms When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail, Serendipity

  • Central Park and the Bethesda Fountain & Terrace: A must for any first-timer in NYC. Not only are so many amazing movies filmed in this iconic park, it's also just an amazing place to spend a couple hours.
    • Harry and Jess running past the fountain, the Loeb Boathouse where Sally and her friends discuss their love lives over lunch (When Harry Met Sally)
    • The Mall and Wollman rink (Serendipity)
  • Serendipity3: This whimsical restaurant, famous for their frozen hot chocolates, has a huge menu with tons of different options for both food and drinks -- also the film location where Sarah Thomas and Jonathan Trager share dessert (Serendipity)
  • Cafe Lalo: Grab a tall decaf cappuccino at the same place that Joe Fox discovers who Kathleen Kelly really is (You've Got Mail)
  • Katz's Deli:Where Harry Burns and Sally Albright share lunch among other experiences ... I'll have What She's Having (When Harry Met Sally)
  • Empire State Building or the Rockefeller Center: Climb to the top of either of these buildings for some of the most amazing views of the city. We personally chose the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller so we could see the Empire State Building as part of our view (and because it had better reviews), but, the main deck of the Empire State Building is where Annie meets Jonah and Sam (Sleepless in Seattle)
  • 91st Street Garden at Riverside Park: At the end of the movie, this is the film location where Kathleen Kelly and Joe Fox finally 'meet.' (You've Got Mail)

If you haven't already noticed, I'm a big fan of RomComs.. so much so, that I have a handful of prints with quotes from some of my favorite movies in my Etsy shop!

Fall Weekend in Colorado Springs | Part 2 Itinerary

If you haven't read part 1 of our weekend trip to Colorado, check out all the fun restaurants and outdoor activities we covered. Part two covers the last 2-3 days of our trip: Hiking the Incline, the train ride of what dreams are made of + coffee + more coffee.

  • The Royal Gorge Route Railroad: The most fun thing we had done ever, ever. The views are spectacular. It's about an hour or so from where we stayed in the springs but the views from the car ride were amazing, we had nothing to complain about and the food was amazing. We paid for the most expensive car but think we would've also had a great time in the less expensive cars as well. Order a flight of beer to try the local the brews + the salmon dinner (best salmon we've ever had!)
    • From there we drove around a bit and made it to the top of the gorge. We could've paid a ridiculous amount of money to cross the bridge but we settled for views from the parking lot which were equally as good.
  • Cerberus Brewing Company: Amazing burgers and brews-- try the Classic with white cheddar and roasted red pepper mayo on an artisan bun.
  • Denver Biscuit Co. : Instagram-worthy breakfast sandwiches with a view. We loved the Lola (Buttermilk fried chicken, bacon, honey butter and maple syrup) and bottom-less cups of coffee
  • Story Coffee Company: Stopped here on our last day. Super cute place. It's literally a trailer with a little deck and the most perfect view of Pike's Peak.
  • Manitou Incline:
    • I won't sugar coat it. This is a really difficult climb. There are a few areas to stop and catch your breath (while you watch the 70 y/o regulars that climb up with no problem at all). The last few hundred steps were by far the most physically challenging thing I'd ever done. I thought I was going to fall backwards and tumble down the steps a majority of the time.
    • The entire hike up is about 2,000 ft. of elevation gain in just over 1 mile.
    • Bring your A-game, bring your water and leave the whining at home so you can check this hike off your bucket list and marvel at the amazing views at the top.
    • You may even meet some friends along the way! We met two other couples on the way up, close in age to us that also live near our hometowns.

We had SO much fun on this trip and can't wait to visit other areas of Colorado again, soon! Have you been to the Springs?

If you're planning a trip out to Colorado Springs soon, here are a handful of things we didn't get to on our list:

Fall Weekend in Colorado Springs | Part 1 Itinerary

In 2018, Loren and I spent a long weekend in Colorado Springs, CO. It was both our first time visiting and we had such a blast. I've put together this full itinerary on what to do, where to go and the best part: what to eat.

Here is the Airbnb we ended up staying in. It was the perfect location and our host was exceptional!

  • Garden of the Gods: Unfortunately we went on a super foggy day but it was actually still SO beautiful.
    • We spent about 2-3 hours hiking around and stopped at the Garden of the Gods Market and Cafe (try the Green Goddess Smoothie: Honeydew melon, cucumber, apple, kale, mint and ginger or the Southwest Eggs Benedict: Poached eggs, bacon, spinach, and green chile on a buttermilk biscuit, cumin brown butter hollandaise or the Mountain Man Hash: Smoked pork, leek hash browns, two over-easy eggs with choice of pork green chile or sausage gravy).
  • Cave of the Winds Lantern Tour (1.5 hrs; $31/ea.): This was a fun little activity and would be especially fun for little kids. This tour had some bad review on Yelp but we went away. We agree it was very cheesy but the actual tour itself and getting to explore the caves was really interesting. We went for the views and at the top of the mountain we couldn't see a thing with the fog (Instagram vs reality below).
  • Yellow Mountain Tea House: The cutest little Chinese tea shop and our first meal in the springs. They had SO many different varieties of loose leaf tea to choose from for drinking with your meal or to take home. Once you've chosen your tea, you'll be seated at your table to order food. Everything we ate was amazing and was so well made.
    • Here are a few things we ordered: Xiao Long Bao, Chicken Dumplings, Meat Shumai.
  • Skirted Heifer: We loved this place so much we came here twice on this trip (don't judge us). The first time around we met these retired stoners that were a hoot to talk to. The food was ready quickly and it's in a nice area of the city with other shops and bars if you're looking to make an evening of it.
  • Fossil Craft Beer Co.While we had some time to kill after the cave tour and dinner, we popped in here for a flight. The bartender was really friendly and great to talk to. You can tell it's where the locals go and not a super touristy spot. It was also dog-friendly, so automatically it was a 12/10 experience.
