"Don't you just love New York in the fall? Makes me wanna buy school supplies"
I had the wonderful opportunity to travel to NYC for the first time in 2019 for a work trip. It was an unusually warm week in October and my co-worker and I had a few hours in our schedule to see the city. Most of the fantasy that I've dreamt up about NYC has been from Rom-Com movies (no shame) -- so of course I had to visit some of the filming locations from movies like When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle, Serendipity, etc.
If you also find yourself with a few hours to spare in NYC and aren't sure where to start, I hope you find this mini-list helpful! I can't wait to visit again to see all that this city has to offer!
OntheSetofNewYork is an amazing resource, too, providing film locations for popular romcoms When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail, Serendipity
- Central Park and the Bethesda Fountain & Terrace: A must for any first-timer in NYC. Not only are so many amazing movies filmed in this iconic park, it's also just an amazing place to spend a couple hours.
- Harry and Jess running past the fountain, the Loeb Boathouse where Sally and her friends discuss their love lives over lunch (When Harry Met Sally)
- The Mall and Wollman rink (Serendipity)
- Serendipity3: This whimsical restaurant, famous for their frozen hot chocolates, has a huge menu with tons of different options for both food and drinks -- also the film location where Sarah Thomas and Jonathan Trager share dessert (Serendipity)
- Cafe Lalo: Grab a tall decaf cappuccino at the same place that Joe Fox discovers who Kathleen Kelly really is (You've Got Mail)
- Katz's Deli:Where Harry Burns and Sally Albright share lunch among other experiences ... I'll have What She's Having (When Harry Met Sally)
- Empire State Building or the Rockefeller Center: Climb to the top of either of these buildings for some of the most amazing views of the city. We personally chose the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller so we could see the Empire State Building as part of our view (and because it had better reviews), but, the main deck of the Empire State Building is where Annie meets Jonah and Sam (Sleepless in Seattle)
- 91st Street Garden at Riverside Park: At the end of the movie, this is the film location where Kathleen Kelly and Joe Fox finally 'meet.' (You've Got Mail)
